Did Pamela have an Eating Disorder or did she just forget to eat? Did she actually think of herself as fat and wanting to be thinner?
I would think that Patricia knows best here?!

Did Pamela have an Eating Disorder or did she just forget to eat? Did she actually think of herself as fat and wanting to be thinner? I would think that Patricia knows best here?! I can't say in any definitive way, but the information available suggests she may have been anorexic in her early life, a condition which may have recurred later in life. Certainly the things people said about her as a child living in a troubled home environment -- particularly the teacher who said it was like she was trying to disappear -- seems a classic indicator of anorexia. And I think if Jim was, as I was told, so proud of her being so tiny, that would have been more pressure to stay waif-like. At the time she died she was about 20 pounds heavier than she'd been when Jim was alive, but that just brought her up to a normal weight for someone her height. So I guess that's a very long way of saying I don't know, but I think it's likely she did suffer from anorexia on and off throughout her life.

Now why would you think Patricia knows that best? Not to be rude, but there is no indication of the disease in Pamela. Not sure if you read her autopsy, but had she suffered from the disease at the time of her death (or anywhere near it), it would have manifested itself if her organs, it did not. If this had been something she suffered as a child, I doubt anyone here or anywhere (unless they grew up with her and she confided it) would know that. Also, while it is true that Pamela apparently had a tough time of it with her parents (as many teens do), stress can also cause weight loss. Example, I lost about 20 lbs after going through a very tough time last year. I am 5'11 and went from 146lbs to 126lb in short order and have still not gained it back. I do not have an eating disorder and eat like a pig I (so to speak, lol). Lastly, I was a very thin as a young girl and am still very thin and have never suffered an eating disorder (although many thought I did as a child I was so thin). Pam looked to me to be a very petite, but healthy young woman. It must be remembered that she was a smoker (which often keeps weight off) and she was also very young (early 20's). Her thin frame does not at all imply illness.

I was like that as a kid to! But I'm normal now...I think that Pamela looks thin, but healthy on the pictures i have seen. But i was just wondering about it, if there was any proof of her having an eating disorder.

Well most certainly and I can understand why you might think Patricia would know this. There is no proof that I am aware of and have never even heard a whisper about it. Although PB wrote ADAD, there was no mention of this is that book and that I can recall, she did not interview any childhood friends. Even if she had (which I honestly cannot recall), most people with those disorders (especially in those days before people really knew about them) even spoke of it. Pamela was a very petite young woman (116lbs) and about 5'5, but most certainly I do not think she was ill with an eating disorder. To be sure, if she were anywhere around the time of her death it would have been very obvious as it is very damaging to the organs. I think she was just a tiny young woman, but healthy just the same.

well I am a little taller than Pam and weigh 8stone 3 and i have had 3 kids. I did suffer from an eating disorder when young and had treatment for it. If Pam did have this then believe me no-one would know. It is a disease where people become very adept at hiding it. I developed bulimia also at one point but no-one in my family knew of this. I am certainly slim but in no way unhealthy looking, I have a tiny frame, thin wrist etc like Pam had. I agree about the fact that if she were suffering at the time of death this would have shown, but only if it had been quite extreme. to be honest when I was a lot thinner I kind of liked it that way, and from what I have read jim liked Pam tiny and commented on this, this can make a person wish to remain like that, I am speaking from experience here. I think Pam was thin and certainly in some pictures she looks a lot more thin in the face than in others, but many things can cause weight loss or gain, as already stated stress etc or even too many nights partying when the last thing you want is food. just my view x

I have know people that have eating disorders and it is a very private hell from what I know of them. I do know how very easy it is for a victim of an eating disorder to hide it from others, they become very clever about it. It is such a horrible thing and most I have know just want to be left alone with their disease. As for Pam, I still do not think she was ill, but one would never know for sure now?? I think if anything it was in fact late nights and partying that I know from experience will take priority over eating properly. Now at the time of her death the M.E. said she was: "27 year old well-developed and nourished". It was also stated that her upper and lower teeth were present and "unremarkable". If she had been Bulimic for any period of time, most likely she would have lost teeth or at the least done damage to be sure to them. Nonetheless, I think it was just a theory for someone to ponder about her. As for yourself, I pray that you are doing well now. I cannot imagine what a person goes through with such a disease, but I can only imagine.

yes, I am very well now thank you, it was a long time and ago and is not something I would ever allow myself to slip back into, I feel so sorry for the young girls these days with the heroin chic still very popular among the fashion world. You made a good point about the teeth, the enamel came of my front ones and I had to get crowns. One good thing tho, I got a gold one further back in my mouth hehe. I guess we will never know Pams ideas about her weight, or indeed if she had any issues with this at all

we particulrly think Pam hadn't any eating disorder, but of course, this is just an opinion. It's true maybe she partyed a lot, which means you drink a lot and you eat few, but if you compare Pam with Jane Asher, you can see they were very similar girls. Jane Asher was a 60s actress who got engaged with Beatle Paul McCartney. Jane Asher was the same age of Pam and she was red-haired too. If you have the occasion to see "The Masque of the Red Death", you can see how petite and skinny Jane was, and she didn0t suffer any eating disorder.
